At PHEN’s 2016 Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit, Dr. J. Jacques Carter moderated a panel discussion on prostate cancer early detection screening. The panelists included Mr. Charlie Hill, Pamela Coleman, MD, Mr. Michael Kemeter, Ruth B. Etzioni, PhD, Kathryn M. Wilson, ScD, and Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, MD, PhD, MAS. Prostate cancer survivor Mr. Charlie Hill began the discussion by explaining his prostate cancer journey and general prostate cancer screening recommendations.
Mr. Michael Kemeter discussed his work in new molecular diagnostics and treatment technology at Genomics Health. He also answered a question about overdiagnosis, PSA screening, and overtreatment. Dr. Coleman explained how she works in urology at Howard University and teaches residents about prostate cancer screening. She discussed her experience with treating patients who have advanced prostate cancer. In addition, she spoke on biomarkers and the genome as a potential revolutionary way to improve prostate cancer treatments for Black patients. The panelists also answered questions about early detection, clinical trials, and treatment.
