PHEN held a Managing Survivorship Meeting in December 2023 during which Dr. Jim Smith made a presentation discussing early detection screening and the PHENPSA.com online portal. First, he outlined the prostate cancer racial disparity for Black men and emphasized how catching the disease early leads to more than 95 percent of patients having at least a 10-year survival rate.
Dr. Smith explained key information about the male reproductive system, prostate cancer detection, and symptoms. Black men should start talking with their physicians about PSA testing at 40 years of age. Dr. Smith also answered intriguing questions from the audience. In the second half of the meeting, PHEN Director of Patient Education and Clinical Trials Dr. Keith Crawford discussed risk levels and the treatment pathways available for prostate cancer patients by showcasing the PHENPath.com online portal.
