Bishop Kenneth Carter

As part of the Jackson, Mississippi Prostate Cancer Disparity Rally, Bishop Kenneth W. Carter, the Presiding Bishop of the 4th Episcopal District of CME Church in Jackson, MS, delivered a message explaining how prostate cancer is a crisis in African American communities. He advises Black men to pursue early detection screening and to visit PHENPSA.com for life-saving information.

 

“Prostate cancer is a crisis within Black communities,” said Bishop Carter. “Prostate cancer early detection screening saves lives.”

 

In June 2006, Bishop Kenneth W. Carter was elected to be the 55th bishop of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Currently, Bishop Carter is the Presiding Prelate of the 4th Episcopal District of the C.M.E. Church. He was originally born in Corinth, Mississippi to parents Willie and Stella Carter in July 1957. Bishop Carter earned his license to preach in 1973 at the City Road Temple C.M.E. Church in Corinth, Mississippi. By 1976, he was ordained as a deacon. He was also the pastor at Jones Chapel C.M.E. Church in Luka, Mississippi.

Bishop Carter also spent 10 years as pastor at the Carter Metropolitan C.M.E. Church in Fort Worth, Texas. He has served congregations throughout Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. Bishop Carter obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi and a Master of Music Education degree from Delta State University. Additionally, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Howard University and a Doctor of Divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Bishop Carter and his wife, Rosia Hunter Carter, have two daughters, Jill Lynnette and Stacy Marie.
