Jackson Mississippi Town Hall Meeting

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, PHEN held a Town Hall Meeting in Jackson, Mississippi as part of its Prostate Cancer Disparity Rally. The Town Hall took place at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and via Zoom. The endeavor brought together numerous local leaders to discuss and plan ongoing efforts to eliminate the prostate cancer crisis facing African American men across Mississippi. The event began with a virtual tour of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum to commemorate Black History Month. The virtual tour included a discussion of the Civil War, the Reconstruction period, and the Civil Rights Movement.

PHEN President Thomas Farrington explained how the Disparity Rally is conducted and how PHEN has reached more than 19 million people over the previous three years. PHEN’s Director of Clinical Trials and Education Dr. Keith Crawford presented information on prostate cancer statistics throughout Mississippi. He also described several online portals PHEN provides to teach patients about early prostate cancer detection (PHENPSA.com), treatments (PHENPath.com), and clinical trials (PHENTrials.com).

Director of Community Outreach Rev. Adrian Backus presented on PHEN’s latest church partnership initiative. To conclude the Town Hall, the panelists discussed the challenges and ongoing methods for eliminating the prostate cancer disparity facing Black men.
