Prostate Cancer Early Detection – The Next Chapter with Dr. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo

Dr. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo from the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) outlined the goals and the recommendations of USPSTF, such as which cancer screenings certain populations and age groups need. She discussed the 2012 recommendation from USPSTF that did not advise prostate cancer screenings for all men due to the harms versus benefits from such tests.

The issues included potential side effects from treatment. The recommendation was controversial, as there were gaps in research including the lack of representation of African American men in clinical trials. Since then, the USPSTF updated this recommendation with greater clarity for different populations.
