At PHEN’s 2017 African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit, Walter Rayford, MD, PhD, MBA, an associate professor in the Department of Preventative Medicine at the University of Tennessee, shared his journey with prostate cancer screening. He explained his medical background and the reasons for his passion to eliminate the prostate cancer racial disparity. He also described his community-based program called the Louisiana Education in Early Detection program, which emphasized the woman’s role in family-based medical decision-making and uncovered barriers to screening.
