PHEN Ambassador Jerry Womack, a prostate cancer survivor, introduced the first session of the 2025 PHEN African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit. Mr. Womack described how he met PHEN President Thomas Farrington when he began his prostate cancer journey in 2004, starting his work with PHEN at its monthly Survivor Network meetings. He thanked the sponsors for their support.

“I remember Tom saying to me, ‘Jerry, I believe it’s time to take our fight to Washington.’ So he organized the 2005 Summit and [got] survivors, medical specialists, and government officials together for our very first summit on Capitol Hill,” said Ambassador Womack.
