Jacob Berchuck, MD, Medical Oncologist, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

At PHEN’s 17th Annual African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit, Dr. Jacob Berchuck, a medical oncologist from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, discussed many treatment options available for patients with advanced prostate cancer. Today, even advanced prostate cancer is treatable. Dr. Berchuk described chemotherapy drugs including Docetaxel and Mitoxantrone, radiopharmaceuticals like Radium-223, and androgen receptor targeted therapy including Abiraterone and Enzalutamide.

He also covered immunotherapy drugs such as Sipuleucel-T, androgen deprivation therapy, and PARP inhibitors including Olaparib. Lutetium-PSMA is the most recently developed treatment Dr. Berchuck outlined. This is an antibody that binds to the PSMA molecule and links to a radioactive molecule that destroys cancer cells.
