Dallas Prostate Cancer Community Rally: Increasing Clinical Trial Participation

PHEN Director of Clinical Trials and Patient Education Dr. Keith Crawford presented on prostate cancer clinical trial participation at the Dallas Prostate Cancer Community Rally. He began by asking whether the audience members knew that they can participate in these trials, and showcased PHEN’s online portal PHENTrials.com.

In particular, he discussed the “Find-Your-Trial” (FYT) tool where patients can enter in their specific prostate cancer diagnosis and the state they live in. Then, they can access information about the nearest clinical trials meant for them. Dr. Crawford also showed the patient summaries from different clinical trials available on PHENTrials.com.

During this session, a panel discussion with industry representatives focused on increasing diverse participation for prostate cancer clinical trials. The panelists included:

  •    Ms. Elizabeth Lef, Patient Advocacy Lead, Telix Pharmaceuticals
  •    Ms. Cassandra Smith, MBA, Director of Health Equity, Enterprise Advocacy Relations, Amgen

Dr. Crawford began the panel discussion by explaining that the advocacy organization of a pharmaceutical company is its heart. The panelists explained the steps they take to increase clinical trial participation at their respective biopharmaceutical companies as well as the importance of getting patients into cutting-edge treatments meant to increase healthcare equity. Lastly, the panelists answered questions from the audience, and audience members filled out a survey.
