PHEN Director of Church Partnerships and Community Outreach Rev. Adrian Backus introduced the Dallas Roundtable Discussion at the Dallas Prostate Cancer Community Rally. He invited the participants from the day to join in the roundtable discussion.
Mr. Pankaj Aggarwal, US Medical Affairs Director of Prostate Cancer at Johnson & Johnson, participated, explaining how he helps patients join clinical trials and understand the benefits of prostate cancer trials in his current position. He described how trials often involve adding a secondary medication to help fight cancer. In addition, a clinical trial will cover the costs of treatment and may even cover the cost of transportation and meals.
Mr. Llew Fambles, a prostate cancer survivor who participated in clinical trials, discussed how he discovered the POWER clinical trial when getting his radiation treatment. This trial involved assessing how exercise can make a positive impact in wellness among Black prostate cancer patients. He used a stationary bike and weight blocks from the trial to boost his exercise routines for six months. Audience members also took part in the discussion, outlining their own experiences surrounding prostate cancer and healthcare.
Lastly, Rev. Backus provided closing remarks to end the Dallas Prostate Cancer Community Rally and Elder Earnest Hodridge of the Cedar Crest Church of Christ provided a closing prayer.
