Enhancing Clinical Trial Awareness and Increasing Participation of Black Patients Opening Remarks

Mr. Thomas Farrington, Founder and President of PHEN

Mr. Thomas Farrington welcomed the audience to the third session of the PHEN 2023 African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit, known as Enhancing Clinical Trial Awareness and Increasing Participation of Black Patients. He thanked the audience and sponsors, emphasized the virtual Exhibit Hall for the summit, and mentioned the prior two sessions. While session I focused on early detection screening and session II outlined PHEN’s outreach to numerous communities, session III targeted increasing clinical trial participation among Black patients.

The lack of clinical trial participation is further contributing to the prostate cancer disparity and patients are missing out on the benefits of clinical research. PHEN first began Clinical Trial rallies in 2017 and has been partnering with pharmaceutical companies to educate patients ever since. In this session, PHEN brought together patients and experts to discuss strategies that may increase clinical trial participation among Black patients.
