Managing Survivorship – What Have We Learned? By Ms. Tomeeka Miller

Ms. Tomeeka Miller, Special Assistant to the President and Director of Marketing at PHEN, delivered a presentation about a poster abstract that PHEN developed regarding a partnership with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She spoke on prostate cancer screening recommendations as well as barriers to screening. Most importantly, she covered the health disparities among Black men.

“Black men have the greatest burden. In Boston, they’re nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed and three times more likely to die from prostate cancer compared to White men,” explained Ms. Miller. These outcomes are similar in others parts of the country as well.

The presentation also went over the combination of PHEN’s resources and support from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This partnership has brought together monthly Managing Survivorship Meetings and educational webinars. Ms. Miller also shared the statistics showing how beneficial these educational events have been for participants.
