Former Florida State Senator Tony Hill, who is a prostate cancer survivor, shared his story during a PHEN webinar, explaining how diet affected his survival during prostate cancer treatment. In 2019, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and first began with an active surveillance regimen. When his PSA level grew too high, Hill underwent radiation treatment for about 20 weeks.
He went on a plant-based diet before he was even diagnosed with prostate cancer due to his friend’s influence. His diet focused on plants and vegetables. He also removed eggs, cheese, red meat, and milk from his diet. Before his switch to a healthy lifestyle, he was overweight and generally felt unhealthy. Since then, a plant-based diet has helped improve his quality of life, and he recommends other prostate cancer patients to “eat less and move more.”
