The second session of the African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit featured several medical experts and vital information on prostate cancer clinical trials. Dr. Keith Crawford, PHEN’s Director of Clinical Trials and Patient Education, presented statistics showing more than twice as many African American men pass away from prostate cancer as all other races.

African American men also have a 71% higher incidence rate than White men. To change these numbers, more African American men need to participate in clinical trials, explains Dr. Crawford. Today, only about 4% of prostate cancer clinical trial participants are Black men. PHEN’s Clinical Trial Rally aims to increase African American participation in clinical trials. The panelists included Andrew Coop, MBChB, BSc, from Pfizer Oncology, John Carpten, PhD, from the University of Southern California, and prostate cancer survivor Mr. Jimmy Barnes.
