Prostate Cancer Early Detection and Screening-An Update with Mr. O’Dell Lewis, Dr. J. Jacques Carter

At the 2019 Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit, a session delivered by Mr. Odell Lewis and J. Jacques Carter, MD, MPH, focused on prostate cancer early detection and screening. The issue at hand was the recommendation from the US Preventive Services Task Force to forego regular prostate cancer screening. This led to serious issues including higher PSA levels and more advanced cancers once they were identified. This recommendation was especially dangerous to men at high risk of prostate cancer including Black men. Dr. Carter went into detail about the studies showing the problems related to foregoing early detection screening.
