Dr. Lorelei Mucci, Professor of Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health, discussed how diet can improve prostate cancer survival, healthy aging, and cardiovascular health during a PHEN managing survivorship webinar. She went into detail about the Mediterranean diet and the plant-based diet, and explained the type of foods that can cause hyperinsulinemia and inflammation.
The most beneficial foods for prostate cancer survivors include tomatoes, cruciferous vegetables, fish, and coffee, according to Dr. Mucci. Further, prostate cancer patients should avoid dairy products, processed meats, and red meats. She also went over a clinical trial showing that a healthy plant-based diet reduces the incidence of fatal prostate cancer. Lastly, Dr. Mucci answered numerous audience questions.
