Honoring DeWayne Charleston: A Legacy of Advocacy and Resilience
The fourth session of the 2025 Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit presented a tribute to Mr. DeWayne Charleston who was a PHEN Ambassador from Texas and lived with metastatic prostate cancer for sixteen years. He was first diagnosed in his late 40s.
A video recording of PHEN Director of Patient Education and Clinical Trials Dr. Keith Crawford was played during the summit in which he told the story of Mr. Charleston. With PHEN’s help, he was able to get into clinical trials to extend his lifespan. Dr. Crawford explained how, even days before his death, Mr. Charleston was attempting to help another man get into a clinical study to save his life. Mr. Charleston dedicated his life to men’s health, advocacy, and helping others.
