PHEN Joins Forces with Howard University and DMV Churches for Major Prostate Cancer Rally in Honor of Men’s Health Month This June
The Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN), whose mission is to eliminate the African American Prostate Cancer disparity, is holding its DMV (Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia) Prostate Cancer Community Rally across four Saturdays in June 2025, in honor of Men’s Health Month. PHEN will host these events in partnership with Howard University Cancer Centers and four mega churches in the DMV area—Reid Temple A.M.E. Church, Ebenezer A.M.E Church, Judah Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and First Baptist Church of Highland Park. Each event will offer free PSA blood screening tests as well as prostate cancer education.
Washington, D.C. has the highest per-capita fatality rate for prostate cancer in the country and ranks eighth in incidence rate. Black men in D.C. are also three times more likely to die from prostate cancer than white men, according to DC Health.
“Black men are at the highest risk of getting and dying from prostate cancer. So, these are not just events to come and learn your PSA numbers, these are events to come and save your life!” said Thomas A. Farrington, a 25-year prostate cancer survivor and president, PHEN. “These statistics are mind blowing and our goal is to sound the alarm in the DMV about this Black prostate cancer crisis.”
PHEN’s four free DMV Prostate Cancer Community Rally screening and educational events will take place at the following churches, throughout the month of June:
